In 2008, Ferrari launched a new model called the California at the Paris Motor Show. It was the first V8 front-engined Ferrari and was also the first car from the brand to be equipped with a power-folding roof. Split into two generations, the California and the twin-turbocharged California T, this became a very successful segment for the brand. In 2017, Ferrari introduced the California’s replacement, the Portofino- at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. Although it was easy to draw a line from the California T to the Portofino from a design standpoint, the Portofino leaned on a far more modern design language and is a very nicely resolved cabriolet body style.
The Portofino was on sale for 6 years, finally being removed from production in 2023 with the introduction of the Roma converitlbe.
This 2019 Ferrari Portofino is finished in Rosso Corsa over a Cuoio leather interior. It has had just one owner since new and shows 18,955 km at the time of cataloging and was fitted with a host of desirable factory options. As one of the first cars to be designed by the Ferrari Styling Centre, the Portofino has a distinct shape that nicely integrates aspects of the other cars in Ferrari’s arsenal at the time. As with all Ferraris, the car looks fantastic in Rosso Corsa, and when paired with the optional Scuderia Shields on the fenders and simple 5-spoke wheels with yellow brake calipers sitting behind them. The power retracting hardtop on the Portofino gives you all the benefits of a hardtop sports car when the top is up, paired to the joy of open air motoring with just the simple push of a button.
The interior of this Portofino is wrapped in a combination of Cuoio and black leather, and black deviated stitching is seen throughout the cabin. One of the nice things about the Portofino is the 2+2 interior layout, which gives some added flexibility with two small rear seats, perfect for young kids or short journeys with adults. The front seats feature power adjustment and have the legendary Cavallino stitched in the headrests, and offer significant lateral support, while remaining comfortable for long trips. The steering wheel features a carbon fiber rim and spokes, and along the top, LED shift lights which illuminate as the car gets closer to redline, and right behind that sits a bright yellow tach with LCD screens on both sides.
Sitting under the hood is a 3.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8- which is the same as you would find in the GTC4Lusso T. Producing 592 horsepower and 561 lb-ft of torque between 3,000 and 5,250 rpm, the Portofino is not just a top-down cruiser, and can sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds. Shifting is handled by a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox with is similar to that from the California T, but with revised programming for faster and smoother shifts. The suspension utilizes magnetic dampers which allow the car to go from comfortable highway touring car, to tight, responsive sports car at the touch of a button.
In 2023, Ferrari discontinued the Portofino, replacing it with the Roma Spider which no longer features the folding hard top option. As the final hardtop convertible Ferrari, the Portofino strikes the perfect balance between sports and touring car, and is the ideal car to enjoy with the top down all summer long.
